Zinkin Appointed To NLC Finance Policy Committee

While three of his fellow members on the Oro Valley Town Council face recall, Councilmember Mike Zinkin has been appointed to the National League of Cities (NLC) 2015 Arizona League of Cities and Towns’ Budget, Finance, and Economic Development Policy Committee.

Zinkin also serves on the National League of Cities’ Steering Committee for Community and Economic Development (CED),  and Economic Development Advocacy Committee, the Small Cities Council, and as a Leadership Fellow for the National League’s University.

According to the League, the Policy Committee will be working with a framework that was established to give city and town elected officials and staff a chance to provide expertise and direction on proposed policy issues that come to the League.

Already, Zinkin has challenged a policy designed for Scottsdale that could have proven harmful to towns like Oro Valley.

Members of the Committee include Payson Mayor Kenny Evans, (Chair), Wickenberg Council Member Royce Kardinal, Tempe Deputy City Manager Ken Jones, Scottsdale Councilwoman Suzanne Klapp and City Treasurer Jeff Nichols among others.

Zinkin said that he intends “to stay active on this Committee and attempt to represent the needs and desires of smaller Cities and Towns that do not have the “weight or manpower” of the larger cities, particularly the cities in the “Valley of the Sun.”
