Rio Nuevo Under Complete Crony Control
The first thing one Rio Nuevo insider said when he heard the news that Governor Doug Ducey appointed Edmund Marquez to the Rio Nuevo Board last wee was, “Oh, now the cronies control the Board completely.” So it is, the powerful now control the Rio Nuevo Board which began spinning out of control last year when the Legislature removed the last vestiges of control.
The Rio Nuevo District sent out a press release claiming that it was “informed Friday June 19, 2015 that Governor Doug Ducey has appointed Tucsonan Edmund Marquez to the Rio Nuevo Board of Directors.”
As a good friend of powerhouse used car salesman Jim Click, many started wagering as soon as Ducey was sworn in on how long it would take for Ducey to name Marquez to the Board.
Showing that he has little real understanding of the actual projects completed and in the works by the Board, upon his appointment Marquez said, “I am excited and honored to be part of the new Rio Nuevo Board. Fletcher McCusker and the Board have done an amazing job recreating Rio Nuevo, and heading it in the right direction. With all of the great development happening (restaurants, housing, entertainment, etc), I am looking forward to helping our downtown continue to blossom.”
