Congress, Supreme Court Abdicate Power

The United States Congress and the Supreme Court have spoken, and I have been silent until now. What words can I offer that could bring hope or comfort or peace in the midst of such dark times? Congress has refused to legislate and, through the TPP, has given an excessive amount of power to a president who has proven he does not have the interests of America or Americans at heart. I am deeply disturbed and offended that the Supreme Court wrests yet another issue (same sex marriage) from the states’ ballots; that they went even further (in the Obamacare ruling) by interpreting the intent of a piece of legislation whose main architect, Jonathan Gruber, explains the intent as the exact opposite, thereby legislating from the bench with a blatant admission of their behavior in the majority opinion.

In every political battle some are happy and others are distraught over the outcome. The recent congressional vote and spate of rulings from the Supreme Court are no different save one huge exception: Everyone — those who celebrate and those who mourn the outcomes — Everyone…Loses. The United States and our Constitution are weaker from the capitulation of two branches of our three pronged government to the executive branch. As a result, We the People are disenfranchised. So what now?

We wake up and fight. We have to fight against Tyranny right alongside those recent victors who many conservatives felt were our opponents; right alongside those who hold different beliefs and opinions from us, because Tyranny doesn’t have a political leaning. The only thing Tyranny treasures is Power, and no small-minded political party will hold it for very long. Newly legalized marriages will feel the sting of death and inheritance taxes; new unlawfully created citizens will feel the sting of censorship and disenfranchisement; the newly insured will suffer the pain of unaffordable care and poor treatment due to lack of options. And when the now victorious feel the weight of government against them and decry the wrongs, Tyranny will turn on all of us and enslave us—if we are unaware. An unlawfully powerful branch of government acting unlawfully in your favor now, does not equal having the support of government. Tyranny is capricious. We must have the Founders’ checks and balances to halt its destructive offensive march over our lives.

The fight for three equal branches of government working as the Founders intended is two pronged. One: It starts locally, and it starts now. We truly do have the government we deserve, but we can change that. Local elections matter the most. Please engage. Vote. Starting locally, every vote for a candidate with integrity, regardless of party, (we see party means little to nothing now) is a cut against Tyranny. Two: Support an Article V Convention. The only way to leverage the power we gain from excellent, engaged, local voting is for the states to band together against the onslaught of out of control federal government. Every state in our Union that stands firm against unlawful powers is a cut against Tyranny. Drunk on the power of success, the executive branch will harm anyone who stands in its way for any reason, regardless of past alliances. Our two pronged approach to cut Tyranny off at the knees was proven successful at the birth of our United States of America, and it can be successful again. May the Tyranny that now rules us die the death from a thousand local cuts.
