A Phoenix Police Officer was shot multiple times during traffic a stop this morning. According to the Phoenix Police Department he’s expected to survive thanks to his vest.
The officer was shot at approximately around 2:45 a.m., after stopping a car in central Phoenix near 12th Street and Campbell Avenue.
A search is on for the gunman described as a heavy set white man armed with a rifle, and his passenger. The abandoned vehicle was located nearby.
The officer involved is 40 years old, and has been on the force for 9 years.
He is married with 5 kids.
He conducted a traffic stop for suspended registration. The vehicle occupied by 2 persons. Upon approach suspect/driver leaned out window and fired 3 shots. The officer hit twice; once in upper arm and once in vest.
Officer did not return fire.
