Uber has agreed to provide a safe, affordable transportation alternative for maricopa County residents during the holiday season. As part of the Maricopa County Attorney’s annual “Save Lives, Don’t DUI” campaign, Uber will offer first time users twenty dollars off their first ride, enough to cover the majority of trips requested in the Phoenix metro area.
Existing Uber users who participate in the campaign will be able to enter to win up to $100 in transportation from Uber on New Year’s Eve.
“Each year, the holidays can bring a mixture of celebration and tragedy as some people make the dangerous and illegal decision to drink and drive,” said Montgomery. “We decided to leverage Uber’s innovative ridesharing model to make it easier for people to make the smart choice when it comes to getting to and from the many parties and festivities this time of year.”
New users can access the free ride credit by downloading the Uber app and entering the promo code FREETRIP. Existing users can qualify to win $100 in free transportation on New Year’s Eve by entering the promo code EGGNOGAZ. For every new user who signs up with the promo code and takes a ride, Uber will donate five dollars to the Arizona chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Studies indicate nearly 300,000 people drive drunk every single day, enough to fill University of Phoenix Stadium more than four times over. According to a recent report prepared in partnership with MADD, people make better choices that save lives when they have more transportation options like Uber. In California, Uber’s home state and largest market, alcohol-related crashes fell by 60 per month among drivers under 30 in the markets where Uber operates following the launch of Uber’s low cost option, uberX.
