The United States has restricted official activities and travel by U.S. officials to the Mexican border city of Nogales. Only essential travel during daylight hours remains permitted due to information about an unspecified threat.

In U.S. travel advisories, Sonora is assigned Level 3. This means that travelers are advised to reconsider travel to this region.

U.S. officials did not specify the nature of the threat, merely stating that they were informing U.S. citizens about the threat and the change in operating procedures.

The U.S. Embassy recommends taking the following actions:

Exercise increased caution and be aware of your surroundings.
Seek shelter in the event of an incident.
Notify friends and family of your safety in the event of an incident.
Follow instructions from Mexican law enforcement.
Monitor local media for updates.

“This is the only thing they released, no info on what the threat is, but I’ve been saying it for years, Mexico is a powder keg why risk it,” stated former Border Patrol Agent Art del Cueto on X.com. “I am less than an hour from Nogales myself. Stay safe and GOD BLESS!!’

“Many violent crimes take place in Mexico. They include homicide, kidnapping, carjacking, sexual assault, and robbery. There is a risk of terrorist violence, including terrorist attacks and other activity in Mexico,” reads an advisory from the U.S. State Department.
