Lottery Director Resigns Amid Vehicle Use Scandal

Tony Bouie, Arizona’s Lottery Director, resigned this week after a recent Phoenix New Times article revealed that Bouie used of a state car to transport one or more of his children..

According to an article by Howard Fischer of Capitol Media Services, “State policy specifically bars employees from using state vehicles for personal convenience. It also forbids “transportation of family members of friends, or any person not essential to accomplishing the purpose for which the vehicle is dispatched.”

Deputy director of the Department of Administration Kevin Donnellan has been named interim director. 

According to a letter obtained by The Arizona Republic, Bouie submitted his resignation around 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Many questioned his qualifications for the position. Prior to taking the Lottery lead, Bouie served as chief operating officer of an Arizona-based non-profit. Bouie played professional football for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1995 to 1999.
