Border Patrol Agents Assaulted, Smugglers Arrested

On Tuesday April 19, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Agents from Tucson Sector’s Casa Grande Border Patrol Station were tracking a group of suspected marijuana smugglers near the village of Cowlic, Arizona on the Tohono O’odham Nation. As agents approached the group of smugglers, they were assaulted with rocks.

Initial reports indicated that one agent discharged his firearm at an assailant. The assailant and one other suspect are in custody and multiple bundles of marijuana were seized. There are no reported injuries and the incident is being investigated by the FBI, Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Professional Responsibility and Tohono O’odham Nation Police Department.
