On Sunday, June 26, 2016 at approximately 7:20 p.m., the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office was advised of a vehicle versus pedestrian accident which occurred in the 2100 block of Knagge Lane in Willcox.
The initial information indicates that a 2005 Dodge pick-up truck was backing out of the residence when a one year old female was run over.
The child was transported to the Northern Cochise Community Hospital for treatment, however she was pronounced deceased in the emergency room at approximately 8:00 p.m.
On Monday, the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office announced it will be attending the autopsy of the child involved in this incident on Tuesday June 28, 2016. The child has been confirmed to have been 22 months old .
All persons associated in this investigation have been cooperative. The driver of the vehicle was a family member and he was interviewed by Detectives last night at the hospital.
There may have been some unfounded rumors in the Willcox area about the driver of the vehicle who may have left the scene, however, this is not the case, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
