Navajo County Sheriff’s Office Identifies Courthouse Killer

The suspect in the murder of two women, Ashley Utley, and Sherry Quintero-Davenport, outside the Navajo County Superior Court building on Tuesday has been identified as 47 year-old Salomon Diaz of Snowflake, Arizona. He is being charged with two counts of second degree murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Ashley Utley, 25, and Sherry Quintero-Davenport, 45 were the mother and maternal grandmother of the children involved in the custody hearing. Angela Chambers, 68, the children’s aunt, was also injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

Diaz was not the father of the children involved in the custody battle. He was the children’s paternal grandfather who had been taking care of them for an extended time.

The Navajo County Homicide Task Force is continuing to investigate the incident.

Deputies from Navajo County Sheriff’s Office, Holbrook Police Department, Show Low Police Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety were on scene within 43 seconds. Employees and citizens inside the building were locked down as practiced in emergency protocols, and officers surrounded and swept through the complex to ensure remaining members of the public were safe.
