LaStoneWall No-show At Pima County Attorney Candidate Town Hall

Consistent with her refusal to supply the ArizonaDailyIndependent.com with information requested over a month ago regarding campaign use of RICO funds, Pima County Attorney Barbara LaWall stonewalled voters this week when she refused to participate in yet another public forum.

On Tuesday, approximately 100 Pima County residents attended a Pima County Attorney Candidate Town Hall hosted by St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church. Democratic Party candidate Joel Feinman and Green Party candidate Cynthia Tuell answered questions from a moderator and from the audience for nearly two hours.

LaWall, who has been in office 20 years and is running for her 6th term, did not appear despite repeated invitations from St. Mark’s Church and from community members. In June LaWall told the Arizona Daily Star that she would not participate in County Attorney forums and debates because, in her opinion, “This is not an open seat.”

“It is disappointing that Ms. LaWall continues to refuse – 7 times and counting – to appear in public and discuss the state of the Pima County Justice system with the voters,” said Feinman. “Law and justice accounts for over 60% of the Pima County budget, and mass incarceration and criminal justice reform are issues of growing local and national importance. If these are not precisely the kinds of issues that our community should discuss publicly and transparently, I don’t know what are.”

The AZDI requested the approved copy of graphics purchased by LaStoneWall’s office but oddly an “office full of attorneys” failed to keep copies of documents related to purchases of over $12,000 in promotional items including pencil cases and shopping bags.
