Senator Katie Hobbs Announces Run for Secretary of State

Arizona State Senator Katie Hobbs has announced her intentions to run for Secretary of State. Hobbs is the Arizona Senate Democratic Leader, representing District 24 that stretches from midtown Phoenix to south Scottsdale.

“Across the country, the electoral process is under attack from Republican attempts to suppress voter turnout among minorities, young people, and the poor,” said Hobbs. “As Secretary of State I will do everything in my power to protect every citizen’s right to vote and bring competency back to the office to restore confidence in Arizona’s elections.”

Rep. Lela Alston will chair Senator Hobbs’ campaign. “I am delighted to have Lela’s support for my campaign. She was there for my first step into elected office and I couldn’t be more honored to have her with me through this next phase,” said Hobbs.

“Katie has been doing an amazing job as Democratic Leader in the Senate advocating for public schools, equal rights, and looking out for the people who don’t have a lobbyist at the Capitol. As Senator, she’s accomplished a great deal, including expanding healthcare to working families, passing legislation to protect domestic violence victims and sexual assault survivors, and blocking Republican bills aimed at making it more difficult for citizens to vote,” said Alston.

As a social worker, Hobbs has been a champion of human rights, equal rights for women, and the LGBTQ community.
