Good Samaritan Rescues Driver From Marana Canal

On April 14, 2017 at approximately 5:23 p.m., Marana Police officers responded to a single vehicle collision into a stop sign and irrigation canal at the intersection of W Marana Rd and N Wentz Rd.

The vehicle was occupied by one adult female driver, who had exited the vehicle fell into the irrigation canal, which was full of water with a strong current. The female began floating westbound in the canal. A Good Samaritan that witnessed the collision rushed to the driver’s aid and pulled her to safety. The Good Samaritan left the scene prior to Marana PD officers arrival.

Northwest Fire District and Avra Valley Fire District personnel responded to the scene to evaluate the driver. The driver was subsequently transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Marana officers are investigating to determine if alcohol may have been a contributing factor in this collision. The incident is still under investigation.

Marana PD is attempting to identify and thank the Good Samaritan, whose heroic actions potentially saved this driver’s life.
