Local Douglas Man Tries to Cross Border with Loaded Gun

TUCSON, Ariz. – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Raul Hector Castro Port in Douglas, Arizona, arrested a 27-year-old Douglas man Saturday morning when he attempted to walk across the border into Mexico with a loaded firearm.

When a CBP officer monitoring southbound pedestrian traffic attempted to stop the man for questioning, the man tried to run across the border but was caught. Officers then searched the man and discovered he was carrying a .40-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun with nine rounds of ammunition in the magazine and one round in the chamber.

Officers turned the man over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
