Tucson Family Displaced After Hoverboard Catches Fire

A Tucson family of four, a mother and her three kids, were displaced from their home in the 3500 block of East Blacklidge after a hoverboard caught fire and heavily charred the residence.

The mother stated that she had purchased the hoverboard earlier in the day and was charging it for the first time. The family left for approximately an hour and returned to a home covered in soot and ash. A Tucson Fire Engine Company was dispatched to the scene at approximately 6:30 p.m. for a “investigate fire now reported out” dispatch.

The hoverboard had been sitting on the kitchen floor, a tile surface, with no combustible material around it. When the crew entered the home, they found the charred hoverboard and charging cord and the house covered in soot and ash.

Red Cross was called to assist the family with housing as the home was not safe in stay in. The three kids ranged in age from 9 months up to 11 years old.
