Father, Son Arrested For Attempted Theft From Yarnell Church Donation Box

On May 18, 2017, Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies investigating a break-in to a cash donation box for the Shrine of the Mountain Church in Yarnell received an anonymous tip identifying the suspects in the surveillance video. The suspects have been identified as 40-year-old Christopher Perkins and his 19-year-old son, Michael Perkins, both of Yarnell.

The reporting party recognized several items in the video including the clothing worn by the suspect using the bolt cutters.

A search warrant was obtained for the home of both suspects in the 22500 block of Highway 89, Yarnell. During the search, deputies found earmuffs, bolt cutters and a crow bar closely matching the description of those same items seen in the video. At the time of this search, the crow bar was not seized as an exact match had not been confirmed.

As the investigation continued and with the video enhanced, it was determined the crow bar seen by deputies during the May 18th search warrant was in fact a match to the crow bar visible in the security video. Deputies sought and received a second search warrant allowing them to return and recover the crow bar. On May 20th, 2017, deputies served the warrant and discovered the crow bar had been removed from where it was originally stored. Both suspects denied moving it or ever having such a tool. Additionally, the ski mask seen in the security video was found at this time and seized. Based on the evidence recovered in the search warrants along with additional investigative work by deputies, Christopher and Michael Perkins were arrested for Burglary and Criminal Damage regarding the incident.

Both denied any involvement in the case.
