…”In order to form a more Perfect Union”…

  David V. MacCollum

This phrase on the introduction paragraph of our U.S. Constitution provides important and overriding guidance to the media and every member of Congress. It does not give license to the media, our Senators and Representatives to engage in destructive resistance.  Our politicians and the media should be not be grandstanding  before our citizen voters. Nor does this phrase give authority for public interest groups to engage in protests that resort to violence in order to validate their viewpoint or prevent those with opposing views an opportunity to present alternative opinions. Unfortunately, our news media is unable to abide by the phrase “ In order to form a more perfect Union”. They have chosen to take sides. They use bias and engage in “fake” news and there is an absence of following the evidence, which is reducing our democracy to a circus.   A “perfect union” is all about working together on issues and not engaging in battle to avoid working together to find common ground on what is best for the citizens of our nation.

Recently, President Trump, who is the only one who has the authority to fire the Director of the FBI, terminated the showman, James Comey. The issue was that Comey did not follow his duty to abide by the chain of command and report his investigative findings to the Attorney General. It is suspected that Comey chose to usurp the authority of the former Attorney General perhaps because she did not want to indict Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton for using a private Internet server to transmit classified information.  Comey had ample time to become an administrator of the FBI solely responsible to the Attorney General. At congressional hearings, he chose to continue to exceed his authority and engage in politics.  Comey’s actions did not follow the admonition of the first paragraph, “to form a more perfect union”, he needed to fallow the rules set for and by the Constitution to inform only the Attorney General of his findings.  President Trump saw the need to “can” this alligator in the swamp of Washington D.C. governance.

The president is exceedingly wise not to be involved in determining violation of regulation, as the FBI only investigates and establishes facts. The Attorney General determines to define the charges and courts provide for a trial. Until the court renders a decision, all information is held out of public view to protect the accused and ensure for an unprejudiced and fair trial.

Both the national political news media and many of our Nation’s politicians who do not work to ensure for “a more perfect union”, are an infection that affects our economy.  The silent majority knows that our wellbeing depends upon our constitutional rights and standing together to support the need for a more perfect Union.

Here at home, Congressperson Martha McSally, a retired Airforce fighter pilot finds herself in a more dangerous environment. It appears that those who want a “Town Hall” only want to shoot her down in oral combat. For good reason, she is loyal to the Republican Party and to President Trump. Senator John McCain, in my opinion, cannot resist being a political rodeo cowboy who is inclined to assume he is a better leader than our elected President.

The nation needs our media and elected officials to work together for the good of the country and that of its future.  The well-being of our country depends upon forming a more perfect Union, when the media only reports the facts.  For the media to twist the news by including a news reporters personal bias, dependence on leaks from unidentified individuals, or engage in espousing fake news, does not lead to ensuring for a perfect Union.  Viewing the White House Press Conferences is an abomination that defiles the ability to “form a more perfect Union”.   When White House Press news reporters engage in hostile and rude behavior, asking the “Gotcha” questions with intent to discredit our President, does not create an environment that fosters a more perfect Union.  Our new information over-load and chaotic environment provides incentive for unethical politicians on engaging in self-interest commentary that does nothing to ensure for a “more perfect Union”.    What is self-evident, that in due time, the public will be the jury on understanding the charade conducted by a corrupt media and endorsed by lawbreaking politicians.  The good news, citizens will stop listening to media that engages in fake news and citizens will not vote for the politicians who are incapable of ensuring that our United States will form a more perfect Union.
