Suspect Arrested for Molestation In Yavapai County, Immigration Hold Detainer Issued

Juan Antonio Pelayo-Covarrubias is being held without bond along and an immigration violation detainer was put in place after he was charged with molesting a young girl.

On May 24, 2017, at about 5:00 a.m., 38-year-old Pelayo-Covarrubias from Phoenix was arrested by a Yavapai County Sheriff’s detective and booked into the Camp Verde Jail. He was charged with 2 counts of Molestation of a child for knowingly and intentionally touching the genitals of a pre-teen girl. The molestation occurred on April 9, 2017, while he and the victim were riding a quad on a dirt road near the Bumble Exit and I/17.

The suspect was in a position of trust at the time because he was in a relationship with the victim’s mother.

The incident was initially reported to the Phoenix Police Department. During their investigation, they discovered jurisdiction was actually within Yavapai County. A YCSO detective was then assigned, completed the necessary follow-up and arrested Pelayo-Covarrubias, who admitted to molesting the child.
