Seligman Area Burglary Spree In Sierra Verde Ranch Estates

Most of these properties are located in remote parcels off both sides of the I40 near Seligman

In May of 2017, Yavapai County Sheriff’s deputies have taken at least 5 separate reports involving a string of burglaries in the Sierra Verde Ranch Estates of Seligman. Many of the victims noted they have not occupied their property for long periods of time, so it is difficult to determine the actual date of these burglaries.

Since most of these properties are located in remote parcels off both sides of the I-40 near Seligman, and the majority of residents occupy their homes only part-time, it is critical that current residents in the vicinity be on the lookout for any suspicious activity. It is also suggested that residents deploy game cameras if feasible to possibly catch suspects casing neighborhoods or committing thefts. Additionally, if residents are expected to be away for long periods of time, consider removing and securing valuables elsewhere. Residents should also be aware that some suspects will try to determine if a particular home is occupied by checking for fresh tire tracks on the land.

The burglaries were reported on May 8, 12, 26, 27, and 28 and involved suspects forcing entry into Conex boxes, travel trailers, sheds and at least 2 homes. Property taken includes tools, propane tanks, trailer batteries, chicken wire bundles, 5-gallon gas cans, a crossbow and power generators – both Honda and Yamaha brands. In some cases, it appears suspects used a grinder type cutting tool to cut the latches on the Conex boxes which secure locking rods for the doors.  This allowed suspects to gain entry and avoid attempting to disable high security locks used by some victims.

If anyone has information regarding the burglaries, you are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 928-771-3260 and those tips will be relayed to deputies assigned in the area. Those wishing to remain anonymous should report tips to Yavapai Silent Witness at 1800-932-3232. Callers to Silent Witness become eligible for a cash reward if an arrest is made in any of these cases.
