U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers conducting outbound inspections at Arizona’s Port of Nogales arrested two Mexican nationals Wednesday after finding unreported U.S. currency hidden inside their vehicle.
Officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing referred a 36-year-old Mexican man and his 37-year-old wife for a search of their Ford SUV. During the search, a CBP canine helped officers locate almost $164,000 in unreported U.S. currency that had been sewn into the driver’s seat back.
Officers seized the funds and vehicle, and turned the subjects over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
