Chino Valley 10-Year-Old Dies From Burns Inflicted “While Bound And Restrained”

Daniel Terry, age 36, and Julianna Moreno, age 34, have been arrested in connection to the death of 10-year-old Christian Pearson. According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, evidence suggests injuries the boy suffered were inflicted upon the him in the couple’s residence, while he was “bound and restrained and unable to protect himself or flee.”

Moreno is Christian’s mother. A younger child, approximately 18-months-old, was removed from the home by the Department of Child Safety after the incident.

On June 8, 2017 at approx. 2:45 p.m. Chino Valley Police responded to a report of an unresponsive 10 year old child that was not breathing. The emergency response included members of the Chino Valley Police Department, LifeLine Ambulance and Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority to the residence in the 1200 block of Poco Ln in Chino Valley.

The child, who suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns on various parts of his body along with bruising to his back, torso, extremities, neck and head, was not breathing. CAFMA performed emergency lifesaving treatment and the child was transported to YRMC where he was then flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Christian died after being removed from life support at 10:26 p.m. on June 11, 2017.

Christian’s biological father, Eric Pearson, of Tucson, said his son would be an organ donor.

The Joint Investigation is headed by Chino Valley Police with assistance from Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, Yavapai County Attorney’s Office and Department of Child Services.
