Border Patrol Agents Find Marijuana in Vehicle Floor

Border Patrol agents assigned to the Willcox Station found more than 68 pounds of marijuana Tuesday afternoon in the floorboard of a Chevrolet sedan during a secondary inspection at the State Route 90 immigration checkpoint.

Agents referred the driver for further inspection after a Border Patrol canine alerted to an odor it was trained to detect. During the search, agents discovered a non-factory compartment in the vehicle’s floorboards, containing more than 60 bricks of marijuana.

The driver, a male 20-year-old U.S. citizen, was arrested and charged with smuggling a controlled substance. The marijuana, worth close to $55,000, and vehicle were transported to the Willcox Border Patrol station for processing per Tucson Sector guidelines.
