Agents Arrest Two Convicted Sex Offenders At Checkpoints

TUCSON, Ariz. – Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents arrested two male Mexican nationals during separate incidents Saturday morning who were previously removed from the United States following convictions for sex offenses.

Photo is of Agustin Espinoza-NunezAgents from the Three Points Substation arrested Agustin Espinoza-Nunez, 35, west of Tucson for illegally entering the U.S. A subsequent records check revealed Espinoza was arrested and convicted for felony sexual assault in Phoenix in 1999 and, in 2016, he was convicted for re-entering the U.S. following deportation.

Approximately 30 minutes later, Ajo Station agents apprehended 32-year-old Sergio Barajas-Cruz southwest of Why, Arizona, after he illegally entered the U.S. During processing, agents conducted a records check and discovered Barajas was convicted for rape in Oregon in July 2000.

Both men will be presented for prosecution on felony immigration charges.
