Tucson Police Investigating Fatal Hit And Run

The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating a hit and run pedestrian collision that took the life of 30-year-old Rafiq Oulebsir earlier this month near downtown Tucson.

On June 10, 2017, at approximately 4:00 a.m., Tucson Police officers responded to a residence in the 500 block of East Speedway Boulevard to check the welfare of a male yelling in the front yard. Upon arrival, officers located the adult male who was suffering from obvious injuries to one of his legs. Tucson Fire responded and transported the victim to Banner University Medical Center with serious injuries.

The caller stated he heard a loud crash and then found the victim in the front yard. The victim was unable to explain what happened, but officers were able to determine that he was struck by a vehicle based on witness statements and debris in the roadway. The vehicle involved did not remain at the scene.

On June 18, 2017, the victim passed away at the hospital due to internal injuries sustained during the collision.

Detectives were able to determine that the victim was walking in the roadway when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle near E. Speedway Blvd. and N. 3rd Ave. Based on information gathered at the scene, investigators believe the vehicle involved is a blue 2004 to 2008 Chrysler PT Cruiser. The vehicle is missing the passenger side mirror and possibly has a damaged windshield and/or passenger side window.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about this collision to please call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous. They are also asking vehicle repair shops to pay special attention to anyone who requested or is requesting work on this type of vehicle. If the damage is similar, please call 911 or 88-CRIME.
