Couple Caught Smuggling Cocaine At State Route 90 Immigration Checkpoint

Agents assigned to the Willcox Border Patrol Station arrested a Mexican couple Friday after finding more than $730,000 worth of cocaine in his truck at the State Route 90 immigration checkpoint.

Agents referred a white 1997 GMC pickup with for further inspection after a Border Patrol canine alerted to an odor it was trained to detect emitting from the vehicle. Agents searching the vehicle discovered a false floorboard concealing nearly 65 pounds of cocaine.

Agents arrested the two legally present Mexican citizens; a 44-year-old driver and his 42-year-old wife, for narcotics smuggling.

The drugs, vehicle and the couple were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
