TPD Nabs Circle K Armed Robber

Early this morning, around 12:30 a.m., officers from Operations Division Midtown responded to a report of an armed robbery by knife point at Circle K located at 3031 E. 22nd St. Prior to arrival, the dispatcher advised the suspect was a white male, about 60 yoa, bald with a gray handle bar mustache and fled the scene in a white Ford Mustang.

Ofc. Dennis Sinclair was first on scene and learned the male entered the store and asked for cigarettes. The male then produced a knife and demanded money from the clerk. The male was given an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene in the white Ford Mustang. Thankfully, the clerk was not injured. Ofc. Dennis Sinclair quickly relayed additional information to other responding officers.

Ofc. Kristen Moritz recognized the description of the male and was able to identify him as 57-year-old Dennis Tipton. The information was broadcasted and multiple officers assisted in attempting to locate Mr. Tipton. K-9 Sgt. Brad Pelton spotted the vehicle and a traffic stop was conducted near E. 29th St. and S. Craycroft Rd. Mr. Tipton was located inside the vehicle and detained without incident.

He was subsequently arrested for Armed Robbery (A class 2 Felony) and Aggravated Assault (A class 4 Felony). The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be added at a later date. Mr. Tipton was transported and booked into the Pima County Jail. His booking photograph is to the right.
