Tucson Police Make Arrest In Sexual Assault

Tucson Police Department detectives arrested 39-year-old Miguel Jimenez Resendiz for sexual assault and burglary on Tucson’s southeast side.

On July 16, 2017, shortly before 4:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of an attempted sexual assault at a residence in the E. 29th St. and S. Craycroft Rd. area. The reporting party advised the suspect was possibly still inside the residence. Officers arrived on scene within minutes but the suspect had already fled the scene.

The officers contacted the victim and were advised an unknown Hispanic male entered the residence through an unlocked back door. The male sexually assaulted an adult female staying at the residence that had been sleeping on the couch. The female was able to escape to a bedroom and called 911.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 30-40 years old with short hair and facial hair. He was last seen wearing shorts but was not wearing a shirt or shoes. The officers immediately began searching the area for the suspect and contacted detectives.

Detectives began a larger scale canvass of the nearby businesses and neighborhood. During that canvass, they located Jimenez Resendiz at a nearby residence who matched the description the victim provided.

Jimenez Resendiz was detained and the investigation continued. Jimenez Resendiz was subsequently arrested for Sexual Assault and 2nd Degree Burglary, both are class 3 felonies.
