A service canine led officers to nearly 64 pounds of hard drugs

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Nogales seized approximately $234,000 worth of methamphetamine and heroin early Tuesday.

Officers at the Dennis DeConcini crossing were searching a Ford SUV, driven by a 54-year-old U.S. woman attempting to enter the country, when a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to the vehicle’s spare tire. Inside, officers discovered multiple packages containing almost 64 pounds of drugs.

Officers seized the drugs and vehicle. The subject was arrested for narcotics smuggling and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
