U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Port of Nogales seized more than 1,675 pounds of marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin during multiple weekend incidents.
Friday evening, officers at the DeConcini crossing referred a 37-year-old Mexican woman for further inspection of her Mazda SUV when she attempted to enter the United States. When a CBP narcotics-detection canine alerted to the rear cargo area, officers discovered more than 19 pounds of heroin, valued in excess of $335,000; more than 6 pounds of meth, worth approximately $18,000; and close to 6 pounds of cocaine, valued at more than $64,000.
Early Saturday, officers at the Mariposa cargo facility referred a 37-year-old Mexican man for further inspection of his tractor-trailer. A CBP canine alerted to the shipment, identified as wooden spools of cable, which included more than 1,600 pounds of marijuana within the spools, valued in excess of $800,000.
On Sunday, officers working with a CBP narcotics-detection canine at the Dennis DeConcini crossing searched a Ford SUV, driven by a 27-year-old woman from Nogales, Arizona, and found multiple packages in the vehicle’s front fender. The packages contained almost 18 pounds of meth, worth close to $54,000, and 3 pounds of heroin worth nearly $51,000.
Officers seized the drugs and vehicles. The subjects were arrested for narcotics smuggling and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
