The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Wednesday to appoint Goodyear resident Dr. Geraldine Peten to fill a vacancy in the Arizona House of Representatives. Dr. Peten replaces Jesus Rubacalva, who was forced to resign last month.

Dr. Peten, a Democrat, is now representing the residents of Legislative District 4 LD4. Her LD4 seatmate is Minority Whip Rep. Charlene Fernandez. LD4 includes parts of Yuma, Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal counties.

Rubalcava, who announced last month that he would resign effective July 28, is under investigation for alleged misuse of Clean Elections campaign-contributions in the 2016 election.
