Walgreen’s Armed Robbery Suspect Arrested

Last week, Tucson Police officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at Walgreen’s located at 1550 W. Valencia Rd. Upon arrival, they learned an unknown male entered the store armed with a large knife and demanded money from the employee. The male was given an undisclosed amount of money and fled the scene on foot westbound.

No one was injured during the robbery.

Officers immediately responded and began searching the area for the suspect. As they were searching, they were contacted by a taxi driver who mentioned he had recently picked up and dropped off a male in the area. The driver’s description of the male matched that of the suspect. Officers then responded to the area the suspect was dropped off and observed a vehicle leaving. A traffic stop was conducted on that vehicle and a male matching the suspect description, identified as 19-year-old Tony Moreno, was located inside and detained without incident.

During this time, several citizens advised officers they had observed Moreno in the area of a nearby business earlier and he had been wanting to call for a taxi. In checking the area, officers located several items of evidence possibly associated to the robbery, to include a knife.

Moreno was arrested for Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault. He was transported and booked into the Pima County Jail.
