Rep. Kyrsten Sinema announced in a video on Thursday that she is entering the U.S. Senate race for Sen. Jeff Flake’s seat.

In May, Sinema said in an interview on KTAR, that she “would run for re-election beginning at the end of June, and was “very proud to do it,” according to Roll Call.

Sinema will face Phoenix attorney Deedra Abboud in the Democratic Primary should Abboud not bow out.

Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton is expected to announce his candidacy for Sinema’s congressional seat in the near future.

Flake is facing a challenge of his own in the Republican Primary. The former legislator, Dr. Kelli Ward, is currently the only challenger in the race although it is rumored that State Treasurer Jeff DeWit is still considering a run.

Flake is currently one of the least popular senators in the country.
