Lakeside Man Dies After Shoot Out With Police

On October 8, at 10:12 pm, the Pinetop-Lakeside Police Department received a call from a Tucson mother requesting a welfare check on her son, located in the 1900 W. block of Gardner Lane, in Lakeside.

The mother said that she believed her 46 year old son, Glenn Southwood Jr., was intoxicated, and that he had threatened to shoot his wife. The mother said that her son had weapons.

The mother said that she believed her son’s wife was possibly locked in the bathroom.

Two Pinetop-Lakeside Police Officers responded to the residence where they made contact with the son. After a verbal confrontation, Southwood produced a firearm and began shooting at officers. Officers returned fire and Southwood then barricaded himself in the residence.

According to authorities, during the exchange of gunfire, “Southwood struck a Pinetop Lakeside officer in the right leg, just above the knee. The officer was immediately cared for by the Sergeant who responded with him, and concerned citizens in the area, and was then transported to the hospital. An inner and outer perimeter were immediately set and Show Low Regional Special Response Team was paged out (SRT). Numerous SRT Tactics were employed to try to make contact with the suspect with no response.”

At approximately 3:00 a.m., a Pinetop-Lakeside K-9 was “deployed with SRT and made entry with SRT. The K-9 was attacked by a pit bull in the residence and the pit bull was dispatched.

At about 3:26 a.m., Southwood was located on a side porch of his residence, deceased.

Mr. Southwood must have been a Viking. They traditionally like to die with a dog at their feet.
This is a tragic waste on all fronts.
Its truly unhealthy to want to be with anyone who doesn’t want to be with you.
Rest in peace Mr. Southwood, and no worries, those you left behind will clean up the mess…
