Domestic Violence Suspect Killed By Pima County Deputy In Picture Rocks

Luis David Flores

On Monday, just before 7:00 a.m., Pima County deputies responded to a residence in the 11000 block of West Massingale Road for a domestic dispute. Deputies learned the victim was the mother of the suspect, 34-year-old Luis David Flores, and there was possibly a weapon involved.

When deputies arrived on scene, they saw Flores with a handgun before he barricaded himself inside the residence. The Pima Regional SWAT Team responded and took over the situation.

According to authorities, the SWAT team locked down the area and set up containment on the residence, at which time negotiators began establishing communications with Flores. SWAT negotiators attempted to resolve the situation peacefully for over five hours, but Flores refused to surrender. He came out of the residence several times with a gun in his hand. Then, just after 2:30 p.m., Flores emerged from the residence with two guns, one in each hand. He refused multiple commands to drop the weapons before a SWAT deputy shot him.

SWAT Tactical Medical personnel rendered aid to the suspect until he was transported to Banner University Medical Center. He was pronounced dead a short time later at the hospital.
