Cochise County Search And Rescue, TPD Officer Respond To Injured Hunter

On Friday November 3, 2017, the Cochise County Search and Rescue Team was called out for a deer hunter with a possible broken leg in the very rugged Rattlesnake Canyon of the Winchester Mountains.

The reporting person an off duty Tucson Police officer and his son were hunting and located the injured hunter and his friend. The officer drove out to place where he had cell signal and called 911.

Cochise County Search and Rescue Team (SAR) and Cochise helicopter “Geronimo” responded to the area of the call. Cochise SAR personnel were flagged down at Muleshoe Rd and Warbonnet Rd where the injured subject was now located.

The off duty officer said that he was able to get his Jeep to the injured hunter and with the help of his son, a friend and the injured man’s friend were able to get him into the Jeep and take him out to the road.

SAR personnel splinted the hunter’s leg then transported him to airport road where he was transferred to HCI medics. He was transported to the hospital for further treatment.
