North Zone Fire Managers Continue Prescribed Fire Operations

National Park Service and U.S. Forest Service fire managers, working together as the North Zone Interagency Fire Management Program, continued operations on both the North Rim Slopes and High Severity Edge prescribed fires last week.

Updates on these prescribed burns are as follows:

  • North Rim Slopes Rx: Fire managers treated an additional 175 acres last week within the North Rim Slopes Rx unit. Fire behavior is expected to periodically be visible from Arizona Highway 67 for several more days. Smoke may impact portions of Arizona Highway 67, but impacts are anticipated to be minimal.
  • High Severity Edge Rx: Fire managers treated approximately 180 acres last week within the High Severity Edge Rx unit. Fire behavior continues to spread in fine fuels and large logs but growth rates are slow, and fire managers anticipate fire growth to be slow from this point forward unless conditions become warmer and dryer. Smoke impacts to both Point Imperial Road and Cape Royal Road are anticipated to be light until moisture arrives.
