Sierra Vista Man Dies After Falling From Moving Truck

A Sierra Vista man, 27-year-old Charley Troy Johnston, died from injuries sustained when he fell off of a moving pickup truck in the early morning hours of Saturday, Nov. 4, in the area of Town and Country Drive and Piccadilly Drive.

The incident occurred at about 2:33 a.m. when Johnston climbed out of the passenger compartment of a pickup truck while it was in motion. Johnston then fell off the top of the vehicle and suffered severe injuries. Alcohol was found to be a determining factor in the incident.

The driver and another passenger attempted to assist Johnston until responders arrived. Once on scene, SVPD and Sierra Vista Fire & Medical Services personnel attempted life saving measures. Johnston was transported to a trauma center in Tucson, where we has later pronounced dead.

An SVPD investigator trained in accident reconstruction and a detective from the department’s Major Crimes Unit assisted with the investigation on scene. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. An autopsy will be performed by the Office of the Medical Examiner in Pima County.
