2 Dead In South Side Tucson Gang-Related Shootings

The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating a double homicide that took place Saturday evening on Tucson’s South Side. One of the deceased victims was identified as 30-year-old James Jones. The second deceased victim has been identified, however his name is being withheld by authorities pending next of kin notification.

On November 25, 2017, at approximately 9:00 p.m., Tucson Police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of East Norton Vista and South Forgeus Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers immediately rendered aid utilizing their Individual first Aid Kits (IFAK).

Tucson Fire personnel then took over medical treatment and transported the male to a local hospital. His injuries are considered serious, but appear to be non-life threatening at this time.

While treating the male on scene, officers were approached by residents in the area advising there were two additional shooting victims in the 2700 block of S. Coconino Vista. Officers responded to that area and located two adult males on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. Tucson Fire personnel attempted to render aid, however, both males were pronounced deceased on scene.

When officers initially responded to the shooting call, a witness called 911 to report that a vehicle was seen leaving the area just after the shooting. A description of the vehicle was broadcast over the police radio and an officer quickly spotted a matching vehicle driving in the area. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver refused to pull over and fled from the officers. Officers pursued the vehicle for a short distance before it crashed into a Mc Donald’s drive-thru near South 6th Avenue and East 29th Street. No one was hurt in the collision and officers were able to take the driver into custody. A firearm was recovered at the scene of the collision. The driver was identified as 35-year-old Baudelio Camacho.

During the initial investigation, it was determined that Baudelio Camacho and the shooting victims were all gang affiliated. Detectives interviewed Camacho and booked him into the Pima County Jail on one count of Unlawful Flight from Pursuing Law Enforcement Vehicle and one count of Prohibited Possessor. Additional charges involving the shooting are pending.
