Suspect Called To Report Confrontation With Theft Victim, Arrested

On November 21, 2017, around 4:00 p.m. Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to Rocking Lake Lane off Highway 69, Mayer, Arizona, in response to a call from 25-year-old Robert Jones of Glendale. Jones had called the Sheriff’s Office to report threats by 3 subjects who were accusing him of theft.

Deputies contacted one of the subjects who explained that Jones was involved in the theft of property from his truck. The subject had left his 2002 gold colored Ford pickup truck unattended on Highway 69 near Mayer High School due to a flat tire.

When he returned in another vehicle with a new tire, he saw the back window of his truck has been smashed out  and noticed an occupied red sedan stopped next to his truck which began speeding away. Believing this person may be a suspect responsible for the damage to his truck, he followed the vehicle until it was forced to stop on Rocking Lake Lane, a cul-de-sac off Highway 69. After blocking the vehicle in, he confronted Jones and also noticed his duffle bag and tire iron in Jones’ vehicle. At this point, Jones decided to call the Sheriff’s Office and report the confrontation with the victim and his friends. All the parties remained on scene until deputies arrived.

Jones denied involvement in the theft.

The stolen property was recovered and Jones was arrested for Burglary and Criminal Damage. He was booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center and remains in-custody on $25,000 bond.
