Alcohol Factor In Fatal Collision Outside Of Kirkland

On December 22, 2017, 26-year-old Aaron Segura of Kirkland was killed in a single vehicle rollover collision.

On that date, around 7:30 PM, deputies were dispatched to Wagoner Road near milepost 7 outside of Kirkland, Arizona, regarding a single vehicle collision. The reporting party stated that a man had been thrown from a pickup and was not breathing. The party did not witness the collision but came across the scene on her way home. Southern Yavapai Fire Department personnel arrived and relieved a deputy already doing CPR on Segura. Unfortunately, Segura did not survive and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter at the scene.

Deputies determined that Segura’s vehicle, a white 2004 GMC pickup, was travelling south Wagner Road toward the community known as Walnut Grove. Preliminary indications are that the pickup left the roadway under excessive speed and drove on the shoulder for some distance before tire marks are seen leading back to the roadway. Segura then apparently over corrects his steering causing the pickup to slide and rollover several times and ejecting him onto the roadway. Deputies did find alcoholic beverages in the pickup and also detected the odor of alcohol on Segura’s person. As a result, impairment along with excessive speed could also be a factor in the cause of this crash.

Indications of seat belt use, if any, have not been determined.
