Suspect In Fatal Pinal County Hit And Run Arrested, Victim Identified

On Friday, Marcigtan Winfrey Sr., age 42, of San Tan Valley, turned himself in to Pinal County Sheriff’s Office investigators in connection to a fatal hit and run collision on Thursday. Winfrey is being booked and charged with Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Collision.

The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Des Ray S. Lara of Florence.

The fatal hit and run happened sometime between 1:00 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. on Thursday involving Winfrey, a Johnson Utility employee.

Just after 7 a.m., two people called the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) after discovering a body near Hunt Highway and Johnson Ranch. One of the callers was a Johnson Utilities employee. Investigators gathered evidence on the scene which lead deputies to identify the driver as Winfrey, who was driving his work vehicle at the time of the accident.

Winfrey texted his supervisor claiming he hit a barricade and had some damage to the vehicle.
