YCSO Seeking Burglary Suspect, Partner Arrested New Year’s Eve

       Pedro Alaniz

On December 4, 2017, YCSO deputies were dispatched to a theft incident on East Explorer Lane, Prescott Valley, Arizona. The victim reported the theft of a large amount of construction tools from an active construction site including brand name drills, powered saws, nail guns, framing tools, grinders and a generator. The loss was estimated in excess of $5000. On December 19, 2017, the reporting deputy located pawn receipts matching 2 of the items previously reported stolen. A few days later, the victim inspected both items at a Prescott Valley pawn shop and confirmed both tools were his.

The pawn slips identified 30-year-old Pedro Alaniz from Chino Valley as the person who possessed the items when they were pawned. The reporting deputy obtained a search warrant for Pedro’s last know residence in the 1600 block of Cantfield Avenue, Chino Valley, intending to locate the suspect and any additional stolen property. On December 23, 2017, deputies served the warrant and detained several persons at the location. Pedro was not there.

  Steven Hackleman

With assistance of deputies, Chino Valley Police Officers and YCSO detectives and evidence technicians, the property was searched. Deputies recovered at least 15 items that had been stolen from the construction site in Prescott Valley located in portions of the Cantfiled residence belonging to Pedro. Deputies also learned 20-year-old Steven Hackleman was suspect in this case as a result of the investigation.

On December 30, 2017, the investigating deputy received a copy of the in store video from the involved pawn shop clearly showing Pedro and Steven pawning stolen property. On December 31, 2017, Steven was arrested in Chino Valley and charged with Theft and Receiving Stolen Property and booked into the Camp Verde Detention Center.

Additional details on this case are forthcoming.
