Border Patrol Finds Heroin At Welton Immigration Checkpoint

YUMA, Ariz. – Border Patrol agents working with a canine at the Interstate 8 immigration checkpoint east of Yuma arrested a Mexican woman Saturday after finding more than 5 pounds of heroin, worth almost $90,000, strapped around her waist.

Agents discovered the drugs after a canine alerted to an odor it was trained to detect emitting from a shuttle van, in which she was a passenger.

The woman and drugs were processed in accordance with Yuma Sector guidelines. The shuttle van and other passengers were released without incident.
