TPD Investigating Armed Robbery, Homicide At Raspados Funland

The Tucson Police Department is actively investigating a robbery and the death of 61-year-old Anthony Quintela that occurred on Tucson’s Southwest Side.

On Saturday January 6, 2018, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of West Irvington Road for several reports of shots being fired in the area. As officers arrived on scene, they learned that the shooting was part of an armed robbery that occurred at 702 W. Irvington Road (Raspados Funland). One person was shot and transported to Banner University Medical Center with life threatening injuries. Shortly after arrival at the hospital the victim Died.

Detectives were able to determine that an unknown Hispanic male entered the business armed with a handgun. The suspect robbed the cashier, taking an undisclosed amount of money. As he was exiting the business, an armed customer confronted him. Multiple rounds of gunfire were exchanged between the suspect and the customer. During the incident, the customer’s father,  Mr. Quintela, was struck by gunfire. He later died at the hospital. The customer was not injured. The suspect fled eastbound from the business and was not located. It is not certain if he was injured.

Detectives spoke with multiple witnesses that were on scene when the shooting took place. They are urging anyone else with information about the Robbery/Homicide to call 88-CRIME. You can remain anonymous.
