Sierra Vista Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspect

After several weeks of investigation, the Sierra Vista Police Department arrested 22-year-old Sierra Vista resident Brian Powers on Tuesday, Jan. 9, for armed robbery and related charges, resulting from incidents that occurred in December.

Sierra Vista Police Department (SVPD) officers made contact with Powers in the 4000 block of Foothills Drive at about 7:52 a.m. on Tuesday and took him into custody. Powers was sought for two incidents that occurred in December.

The first incident occurred on Monday, Dec. 18, when officers responded at about 9:29 p.m. to a report of an armed robbery at the Subway restaurant located at 329 W. Fry Blvd. Although SVPD officers arrived shortly after the call was dispatched, they were unable to locate the suspect who fled on foot. The suspect, who was armed with a handgun, had taken about $230 in cash.

The second incident occurred on Saturday, Dec. 23, when officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at Little Caesars Pizza, located at 55 S. Highway 92, at about 10:49 p.m. Once again officers arrived shortly after the call was dispatched but were unable to locate the suspect, who had fled on foot and was armed with a handgun. The suspect fled the scene without taking anything.

Powers was booked into Cochise County Jail on the following charges: armed robbery, attempted armed robbery, three counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of kidnapping. He is being held on a $75,000 bond and an Arizona Department of Corrections parole hold. Powers was previously convicted of armed robbery in Cochise County Superior Court in 2014.

Anyone with information relevant to this case is asked to contact SVPD Detective Justin Dannels at (520) 452-7500.
