Vail Soldier Killed In Kosovo

A U.S. Army soldier, Spc. Robert W. Jones, from Vail, Arizona, serving as part of NATO’s Kosovo Forces died at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo, Saturday. The death is currently under investigation.

Spc. Jones, 21, was a Military Police Working Dog Handler assigned to the 131st Military Working Dog Detachment, 709th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade.

“Spc. Robert Jones was a remarkable Soldier,” said Lt. Col. Jeffrey Searl, 709th Military Police Battalion commander. “He volunteered to serve his nation and we mourn his tragic loss. Spc. Jones and his family will always be members of the Warrior Battalion. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.”

Jones joined the Army in August 2015 and attended Army Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, followed by Advanced Individual Training at Joint Base San Antonio – Lackland, Texas. He was assigned to the 18th Military Police Brigade in April 2016.

Jones’ awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal (Kosovo) and German Marksmanship Badge.

The USA being deployed in year 2000 by the Clinton administration ; the 106th Congress not being in agreement with the ‘bombing or deployment’ – the ‘the tail wagging the dog’ these events ordered to disengage the domestic turmoil the president had going with regards to his sexual practices while on duty, was well as his domestic orders – these troops after the bombing were sent on the one year mission, now 18 years later – here we are, year 18 of the one year mission – this young man was a baby when this started.

    While we can’t seem to fix our own domestic problems this young man was deployed and died in a foreign land, far removed from our national interest.
    Sadly the exportation of the American dream has become a nightmare for those ordered into harms way.
    My condolences to the family for their loss.

  5. Thank you all, we as a family a rather large one are in great sorrow, he was just a baby and on his 21st Birthday our lives were forever changed. We spoke to him many times over joining and this is what HE WANTED to do!! His great love for dogs lead him in Armys direction. He was a gentleman, well mannered, kind and mentored my own son (his close cousin). Please keep prayers coming THEY’RE NEEDED….. GOD BLESS all you soilders.
