Tucson Pedestrian Killed In Collision On 12th Avenue

On January 4, 2018, at approximately 6:20 p.m., Tucson Police officers and members of the Tucson Fire Department responded to the area of South 12th Avenue and West Drexel Road for a report of a serious injury collision involving a pedestrian 62-year-old Oscar Hernandez.

Upon arrival, Mr. Hernandez was found in the roadway and was transported to the hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Officers were able to determine that the vehicle involved, a 2017 GMC Pick-Up Truck, was traveling northbound in the median lane of 12th Avenue. As the truck traveled through the intersection of W. Drexel Road on a green light, it collided with Mr. Hernandez, who was crossing 12th Ave. Mr. Hernandez was not in or near a crosswalk at the time of the collision.

On January 7, 2018, Mr. Hernandez passed away from injuries sustained during the collision. Next of kin was with him at the time of his passing.

Speed was not a factor in the collision and no citations or arrests are pending.
