TUCSON, Ariz. – Customs and Border Protection officers at Arizona’s Port of Nogales apprehended a 29-year-old Nogales, Ariz. woman involved in a failed attempt to smuggle approximately 24 pounds of cocaine.
A shipment of cocaine was discovered in the undercarriage beneath the rear trunk
Officers working at the Dennis DeConcini crossing early Thursday morning referred the woman for a secondary inspection of her Chevy sedan when she attempted to enter the United States. During the inspection, a CBP canine alerted to a scent it is trained to detect in the vehicles undercarriage, which led to the discovery of multiple packages of cocaine, worth nearly $272,000.
Officers arrested the subject for narcotics smuggling, and seized the vehicle and drugs before turning her over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations.
