Man Killed In Single Vehicle Ajo Way Rollover

On January 16, 2018, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Tucson Police officers and members of the Tucson Fire Department (TFD) responded to the area of West Ajo Way and South Mission Road for a report of a rollover collision involving a single vehicle.

TFD personnel were the first to arrive on-scene and located a gray 1993 Toyota Pickup in the wash on the north side of Ajo Way just east of Mission Rd. An adult female was on the ground outside of the vehicle and was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver, 60-year-old Guy Hanft Jr., was inside the vehicle and was pronounced deceased on-scene.

Detectives were able to determine that the pickup was eastbound on Ajo Way in the median lane. The vehicle entered the intersection at Mission Road on a green light and continued eastbound in the westbound lanes of Ajo Way. After striking the northern curb and rolling into the wash, the adult female passenger was thrown from the vehicle.

Detectives are investigating the possibility of the driver suffering a medical issue prior to the collision. Speed does not appear to be a factor.
