Pedestrian Collision North 1st Avenue And East Prince Road Turns Fatal

On January 5, 2018, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from Operations Division West and members of the Tucson Fire Department responded to the intersection of North 1st Avenue and East Prince Road for a report of a serious injury pedestrian collision. Upon arrival, an adult female pedestrian was found in the roadway and Tucson Fire immediately transported her to Banner University Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

Detectives with the Tucson Police Traffic Investigations Unit responded to continue the investigation. They were able to determine that the driver of a silver 2006 Honda Accord was traveling southbound in the median lane of 1st Avenue at approximately 35 mph. As the driver entered the intersection of East Prince Road on a green light, the pedestrian ran eastbound across 1st Avenue against the red light. The driver was unable to stop in time and struck the pedestrian.

The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Speed was not a factor in the collision and no arrests or citations have been issued at this time. Detectives are still investigating the collision. Additional details will be released as they become available.

On January 10, 2018, the pedestrian succumbed to injuries received during the collision. She was still in the hospital at the time of her passing. She was identified as 44-year-old Christina Kensinger. Next of kin have been notified.
